Department of Bio-Sciences

The department of Bio-Science, as a separate entity in this institution, is rather nascent in origin being established in August 2002. However the department accommodates 3 separate streams of Bio Science- Botany, Zoology and Physiology.

Department of Botany

The department of Botany which started with 15 students in the general course with Smt. Gargi Nag as the teaching faculty has expanded over the last year with more than 30 students at present. The department has a well set laboratory, library facilities, helpful staff and a conducive working environment. The deparment regularly arranges study tours, field visits, seminars and tutorial sessions for the students. The first set of students has appeared for B.Sc. Part I examination in May 2004. Faculty: Smt. Gargi Nag, M.Sc. , Smt. Rupa Mitra, M.Sc., Sri. Dipan Adhikary, M.Sc.

Department of Zoology

The department of Zoology also set working with 15 students who enrolled in the first batch of B.Sc. Bio-Science general course with Smt. Debjani Chatterjee as the teaching faculty. Within a span of less than a year, the department is now well organized with a new but equipped laboratory, library facilities, a team of energetic and helpful staff and most of all a healthy working environment. Regular appraisal tests, extended facilities like study tours, field trips etc., seminars and tutorial sessions are provided to the students by the department. The department now has 2 batches of students. Its first batch of students appeared in the B.Sc. Part I examination in May 2004. Faculty: Smt. Debjani Chatterji, M.Sc., Smt. Sulekha Barai, M.Sc.

Department of Physiology

The department started with a mere 8 students in the first batch, which now has about 25 students. The department which started with Smt. Satarupa Basu as the teaching faculty has a well organized laboratory, library facility, a helpful team of staff members and a healthy environment and conducts appraisal tests, seminars and has tutorial facilities on a regular basis. The first batch of students appeared for B.Sc. Part I examination in May 2004. Faculty: Dr.Rama Bandyopadhyay, M.Sc., Ph.D, Sri. Anandalal Maity, M.Sc.
