Department of English

The Department of English started functioning from its inception with Elective English in the Pass Course. A number of eminent teachers of English were a part of this department. The Honours course in English was introduced in the year 2000, due to the initiative of our present Principal Dr. Priyotosh Khan and the then Head of the Department Sri Utpal Kushari. The honours course has the intake capacity of 30 students. The department was then helped by quite a few Part Time teachers, without whose excellent service the smooth functioning of the department would not have been possible. The department has three sanctioned posts, and at present there are two full time teachers and one part time teacher. After the retirement of Sri Utpal Kushari, the third post is yet to be filled. Two batches of Part II students have already passed out in 2003 and 2004, and the success rate has been hundred percent.

Though this honours department is a fledgling one it has been able to prove its mettle through various seminars, debates, class and group discussions, assignments, excursions etc. We are fortunate to have a group of lively and enthusiastic students who involve themselves in various activities of the college, like choosing the necessary books and also helping in arranging them in the Library. They appreciate listening to lectures given by eminent speakers and are ready to take part in non-conventional educational classes. We are slowly but surely making a place for ourselves in this college and we hope to grow further, come up with better results and attract more meritorious students.
