National Cadet Corps
31 Bengal Bn. NCC(Boys') & 1 Bengal Bn. NCC(Girls')
The National Cadet Corps Act was passed in the year 1948 under which the Central Government might constitute one or more unit of corps in any state; the members of which shall be recruited amongst the students of any university or school. There are three divisions in the corps namely: (1) the Senior Division the recruitment of which is made from the male students of the university, (2) the Junior Division where male cadets are recruited from any school and (3) the Girls Division where recruitment is made from the female students of any university or school.
Captain. Dr. BIPRADAS RIT
Associated N.C.C Officer
Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College
In our college there are two separate companies both for boys and girls. The Boys' coy began its journey in 1965, the year in which the college was founded. Due to some problems the activities of our coy was discontinued for some years. In December 1991 the boys coy resumed its activities as the 3 rd Coy in the unit 31 Bengal Battalion NCC, Fort William under Calcutta B-group in West Bengal and Sikkim Directorate. The Girls' company was set up in 2003 under 1 st Bengal Bn. NCC. From the beginning our coy has enriched itself under the proper guidance of the Care Taker Officer Mr. Durgadas Bhattacharyya who served the NCC for six years. Mr. Chandan Kumar Goswami took over the charge from Mr. Bhattacharyya in 1999.
We have enrolled 120 boys' cadets and 26 girls' cadet in two separate companies for the year 2004-05. The students are imparted a good deal of knowledge in Physical Training (PT), Drill, Firing, Field Crafts, Camp Setting etc. Previously cadets were trained near the fields of the college; but since 1993 the classes have been taken on Sunday morning in the premises of Fort William , Calcutta . From the beginning our boys have been taking active part in Blood Donation Camp, Traffic Control in Puja, Road Safety Week. They are actively participating in important camps like Basic Leadership Camp, National Integration Camp, Mountaineering Camp, Army Attachment Camp etc. In 1993 our cadet JUO Biswajit Bhadra participated took part in Republic Day Parade in Delhi . Another cadet JUO Ram Shankar Chowdhury also participated in Republic Day Parade in 1999. The activities of our cadets are widely admired by top government officials and knowledgeable persons in the society.
In this era of grueling competition the cadets may get an extra edge by serving NCC for three years in the college/university. As the West Bengal government has already announced the recruitment of NCC cadets in West Bengal police service and fire brigade is on the anvil. There are direct entry schemes in Indian Army as an officer for the cadets who passed the NCC ‘C' Certificate exam. In the recruitment drive for ‘jawan' the NCC cadets are treated separately from the applicants of the open market. Three years service to NCC also carries extra marks in the interview for any recruitment examination. A number of students from our college are now serving in Indian army, Border Security Force, Territorial Army, Air Force, West Bengal Police etc.
In 2001 Lt. Bipradas Rit took the charge as an Associated NCC Officer after successfully completing the Pre-commission course. Our principal, who was himself an NCC cadet, is very much enthusiastic about the NCC in our college. He is giving various incentives to the NCC cadets like partial or total concession of fees to the meritorious cadets. The cadets who perform well are awarded. His continuous encouragement and guidance will lead to far better performance in the coming years.
