Geography

The Department of Geography in Jogesh Chandra Chaudhuri College was set up in June, 2003 as a separate Department for offering undergraduate general course and also for creating provisions for offering honours course in future. Honours course in geography has been introduced since July 2005. Total number of seats in 2005 for honours course was 15. Now it has been increased to 30. Teachers of the Deparment are associated with master degree program in geography offered by other universities.

Infrastructure:

The Department has well equipped laboratory with computer and GIS software, laptop, scanner, LCD and overhead projector, internet connection, tracing table, several survey and drawing instruments, stereoscope, rocks and minerals, satellite image, aerial photo, topographical map, weather map etc..

Mode of teaching: Teaching learning system in the Department may primarily be divided into three types.

Extension Activities

  • Field study: Although it is a part of curriculum helps the students to get exposure to real life situation. The students develop firsthand knowledge regarding social issues and cultural diversities. Impact of physical environment on human life includes economy, society and culture can best be understood through this studies.
  • Students are sensitised about the environment of the society through individual interactions and group exercises. This is far the facilitated by the NSS unit of the college.
  • Individual counselling regarding placement opportunities and carrier options.
  • Students are encouraged by the Department to participate in various co curriculum and extracurricular activities.

 



Student's Zone

In the last Calcutta University part-III examination the success rate is 100%. Students of the Department are highly engaged in different curricular activities. They got many prizes on dance, painting, debate drama, song and sports.
