The department of History advanced with rapid strides with Sri Samir Kr. Pann as its first lecturer. Shortly afterwards he was joined by Sri Swapan Kumar Chatterjee. In short time, the department gained momentum with the active participation of both the professors, being further assisted by Sri P.K. Chatterjee on a part-time basis. Since then, there has been no looking back. Not only the curriculum, but the teaching method has also successfully evolved itself, keeping pace with the requirements of the time.

The Department carries on with its tradition with the present faculty. Honours in History was introduced in the year 2002. The subjectivity as well as objectivity of history is made understandable to the students, belonging to both honours, as well as general level with the teachers' active support & expertise. The approach is absolutely student-centric giving maximum possible breathing space to them. They are encouraged to develop an enquiring spirit in all facts of daily life, not to mention their own cultural heritage & background. The department leaves no stone unturned to break the barriers of chalk & talk & make learning a pleasant experience, with seminars, workshops, tutorials & group-discussions as part of it. The department is indeed performing its bit of role in creating the future global citizens.
