TThe department started with a mere 8 students in the first batch, which now has about 25 students. The department which started with Smt. Satarupa Basu as the teaching faculty has a well organized laboratory, library facility, a helpful team of staff members and a healthy environment and conducts appraisal tests, seminars and has tutorial facilities on a regular basis. The first batch of students appeared for B.Sc. Part I examination in May 2004.
