The Department of Political Science was set up simultaneously with the inception of the College in the year 1965. The Department started with two teachers, Sri Sachindra Nath Bhattacharya and Sri Kamalendu Ganguly, who contributed in numerous ways to build up the Department.Since then the number of students kept on increasing gradually and the Department grew in strength. Over the years, a good number of books & journals have been purchased. Today, approximately there are around one thousand books available on the subject in the College Library.

The College introduced the Honours Course in Political Science during the academic year 2001-2002. The first batch of students have appeared at the B.A. Part-I Examination in 2003 and all qualified for B.A.(Part II)with reasonably good marks. The Department has to its credit a small Library set up recently mainly to help the needy Honours and General students with its humble collection of books, journals & relevant material on the subject. During the last three years, the Department has organized a series of programmers like Seminars, Debate Competitions etc. Students participate in these programmes with great enthusiasm. The Department thus keeps throbbing with activity, all the year round.
